Website Cost
Determining how much you should pay for a web site is probably one of the least written about topics in the web design community and there is no magic formula to determine the appropriate cost for a new web site or for the cost of a re-design. This will at least give you an idea of what a general cost for a website might have been in the past and what you can expect today.
This breakdown is revolved around a small company of about 25 or less employees, that wants that professional design, approximately 15 pages, website hosting, email, website optimization, logo design and domain name registration.
1995 – 1997 Expected cost: $7,500 to $12,000
1998 – 2000 Expected cost: $6,000 to $10,000
2000 – 2004 Expected cost: $2,500 to $4,500
2004 – 2006 Expected cost: $2,000 to $7,500
The price for a web site has drastically dropped over the last decade. The reason for the drop in the cost a business should pay for a website is driven by two factors.
- The first of these factors is that there has been a 10x increase in the number web design companies that have entered the market over the past decade and...
- The emergence of new tools that more easily allow web designers create web sites.
Now lets examine the components that go into determining how much a web site cost.
- Domain name: $25 a year
- Hosting: $180 a year depending on visitor traffic to the website
- Actual web design and graphics development time (15 page website):
- 40 hours to 200 hours -@ $40/hr - (Development Hourly Fee) = $1600 to $8000. 1 to 5 weeks.
It is very hard to give an actual set price for any one website. Every website seems to have more or less work than the previous. With that in mind we work with ballpark figures until we can best understand where you fit in the most. From that we can give you an estimate of the amount of hours needed to complete your project and from there you will have a good understanding of the costs involved.
Below are some examples of categories in which you can expect to be classified under.
